A-LIST RETREATS

Inside celebrity wellness escapes for body and mind.

When the relentless demands of the spotlight finally recede, our most celebrated figures often seek refuge in rather exquisite, wellness-oriented establishments. It is in these havens that beauty routines are meticulously revived, the body finds a welcome equilibrium, and a deeper connection with oneself is, most importantly, rediscovered.

Sometimes, they don’t have to journey far from their natural habitat for their recalibration. Just two hours south of Los Angeles in San Marcos is Golden Door, a legacy, Japanese-inspired wellness compound that envelops guests in organic gardens, citrus orchards, and hiking trails. It’s drawn glitterati since Elizabeth Taylor’s heyday and lured Oprah, Julia Roberts, and Nicole Kidman.

Classic spa services are available, but Golden Door’s uniqueness lies in customizable, holistic experiences. Guests can explore pain-free movement and mobility methodologies, reexamine their nutrition, or practice nervous-system regulation. EMDR trauma work, Japanese kintsugi art sessions, and life coaching invite deeper introspection.

Celebrities pursuing restoration next to cerulean seas set their sights on the Caribbean. And when discretion is a non-negotiable, Amanyara in Turks & Caicos is their presumed destination. Shakira reportedly visited in 2023, as have Justin Bieber and Kylie Jenner. Amanyara immerses A-listers in privacy with sprawling villas, direct beach access, and personal chefs.

At the spa, guests can experience traditional treatments curated with an “earth’s apothecary” of natural ingredients or in-depth experiences like the Life Reset Immersion, which features a physical and mental assessment and implementation plan.

Most recently, Amanyara partnered with tennis legend Novak Djokovic to craft a three-day detox program featuring Pilates, water shiatsu, and sound bathing.

In St. Barts, Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa welcomed Ashley Graham, Bethenny Frankel, and Paris Hilton thanks to its prime Grand Cul-de-Sac location and innovative spa menu. Le Spa at Le Barth is the only Caribbean spa partnered with La Mer skincare and its coveted Miracle Broth™, a “cell renewing elixir.”

Le Spa’s Nordic baths, ATMA Janzu aquatic stretching and decompression therapy, and Biofield Tuning™(where vibration helps open energy blockages) beckon guests to revitalize their entire being.

Sometimes, it’s also about the view, and few locations match Jade Mountain Resort’s sweeping panorama. This five-star enclave was masterfully sculpted into St. Lucia’s Soufrière by the late architect-owner Nick Troubetzkoy. The en-suite infinity pools overlook the Pitons, two volcanic plugs deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a view taken in by Kevin Hart, Sophia Bush, and Jennie Garth.

Spa treatments are available in guests’ rooms or at Kai en Ciel, the boutique spa and fitness studio, and feature ingredients like hand-harvested seaweed and cacao. The latter forms the signature Chocodhara Chocolate Ritual, an Ayurveda massage with warm chocolate-infused oil.

Meanwhile, winter wanderers have long loved Stanglewirt Biohotel in Austria, a five-star resort marrying Tyrolean hospitality with an eco-conscious ethos. The jagged, snowcapped Kaiser Mountains crown it the premier rustic retreat, framing its grass roofs, spring-powered water journeys, and en-suite deck saunas.

Hillary Clinton and Gwyneth Paltrow have stayed here, and Jessica Alba’s multiple visits prompted a fitness series with her trainer, Ramona Braganza. Arnold Schwarzenegger even gifted it with his preferred gym equipment.

Stars frequently book Rolfing with globetrotting specialist Sascha Bauer and the TGC Anti-Aging Facial, which features microdermabrasion and lymphatic drainage. Booking them together ensures rejuvenation from the inside out.

Indeed, the cusp of summer presents the ideal moment to secure one’s place in these coveted havens, ensuring a season not just of leisure, but of genuine rejuvenation for both body and spirit—celebrity or otherwise.
