GROVE INSIDER

JILL FITZGERALD’S CONNECTION TO COCONUT GROVE RUNS DEEP. A MIAMI NATIVE, SHE GREW UP SAILING ON BISCAYNE BAY AFTER HER FAMILY JOINED THE COCONUT GROVE SAILING CLUB IN THE 1970S, FOSTERING A LIFELONG APPRECIATION FOR THE AREA’S WATERFRONT LIFESTYLE AND SENSE OF COMMUNITY.

Decades later, the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices EWM Realty Broker Associate remains one of the neighborhood’s most passionate ambassadors. Here, she shares the local spots that best capture the Grove’s unique blend of history, natural beauty, and laid-back sophistication.

THE HANG

You’ll most likely find me at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club. It has been part of my life since childhood and remains one of my favorite places in Miami. The views across Biscayne Bay are simply unmatched. Whether I’m enjoying a sunset, meeting friends, or watching sailboats glide across the bay, it’s where I feel most connected to the Grove.

THE BITE

That’s easy: Greenstreet Cafe. It’s a true Coconut Grove institution. It’s where locals gather, friends reconnect, deals get done, and visitors instantly understand the laid-back charm that makes the Grove so special. For a special splurge, Mr. C.

THE OUTDOORS

I love the water, so Biscayne Bay is my playground. Whether I’m boating, paddleboarding, or simply enjoying life along the shoreline, the bay is at the center of everything I love about the Grove. What makes Coconut Grove truly unique is its incredible access to the outdoors. We have miles of waterfront parks along Biscayne Bay, fantastic dog parks, marinas, sailing clubs, yacht clubs, the only U.S. Sailing Center in the country, and some of the most beautiful green spaces in Miami. The Commodore Trail is one of my favorite features of the neighborhood. This scenic path hugs Biscayne Bay, connects Coconut Grove to Coral Gables, and provides easy access to Key Biscayne via the Rickenbacker Causeway, creating an amazing network for walking, running, and cycling.

ARCHITECTURE

As Miami’s oldest neighborhood, Coconut Grove offers an incredible architectural tapestry. Historic cottages, Bahamian influences, Mediterranean Revival estates, Mid-Century Modern gems, and some of the most spectacular contemporary homes in the country all coexist beneath the Grove’s iconic tree canopy.

THE GEM

Tucked away on Biscayne Bay, The Kampong is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Miami. It’s a reminder of the Grove’s rich history and deep connection to nature. Even many longtime Miami residents don’t know it exists, which makes discovering it feel even more special.
